That magic hour is setting, and the way the light streams through the vintage diamond window in my office—paired with the birdsong lull as they sense dusk nearing—is the second thing that motivated me to sit down right now and write this note.

The first is that, right before going into my Vedic meditation, I asked my guides to tell me what I needed to write about this week. They said it was of the utmost importance to bring levity and beauty to everyone’s hearts, so I’ll be sharing that below.

Before all of that, we spent Imbolc/Candlemas sowing our spring garden: heirloom kales, sweet peas, snap peas, sweet corn, carrots, beets, heirloom lettuces, radishes, onions, and mustard greens. We also have a volunteer celery plant from a One Gun Ranch start two years ago, which feels deeply symbolic after much of their biodynamic ranch burned in the fires. I collected all of its seeds when it bolted last year and sent many out in handwritten letters to friends during early summer. To have a volunteer appear on its own has made all of our hearts burst.

Beyond that, I’ve gone full Grey Gardens and now spend about 30 minutes each evening knitting next to my goats and sheep in their stall at night, hoping to get them to like me and eventually let me pet them or follow me around someday soon, like the rest of our animals do. All of our animal roam free on the property during the day but get put away from predators at night, so it’s my optimal time to be close with the goats and sheep. I’m learning that goats and sheep who weren’t petted or raised from babies, and who live closely within their herds, are a harder best friendship to crack. Our wether (a castrated male sheep) rammed me in the chest the other evening—ha. I haven’t yet found the treat they can’t resist eating out of my hand (if any of you have pointers, comment below); they scoff at my apple bribes.

I started this series below (last summer) to highlight the things I’d share over dinner with close friends. So here we are: now for the medical beauty treatments I’m trying, the more affordable baroque pearl earrings giving mermaid queen energy, a traditional beauty marshmallow recipe, and the lambswool pointelle spring cardigan I’m tossing over everything.
